general rules for the 2024 Pro-Am

Please Note:

  1. Traditional cowboy attire is required

  2. Traditional gear ie; no tie downs, martingales, rubber on saddle horn.

  3. Reatas are encouraged but not required - each shot made with a Reata will be +2 points per shot

  4. No swearing, vulgar behavior, or complaining.

IN THE EVENT OF NEEDING ADDITIONAL HELP ON THE GROUND, ANYONE CAN DO SO, BUT AN ADDITIONAL 15 SECONDS WILL BE ADDED ON TO THE TIME OF EACH RUN THAT AN ADDITIONAL GROUNDMAN IS USED.

Buck's Basic Details On The Event

  1. We will start with 160 teams. You will come to town as a two person team, entries must be submitted and paid by credit card on this website – available March 15th 2024. First entered and paid for, first in.

  2. Contestants may enter on three teams but each with a different partner.

  3. The Thursday afternoon before the team branding event team pros and their teams will be announced.
    Buck is picking the 20 pros (each pro will rope with 8 teams)

  4. 80 teams will rope Friday, the next 80 will rope Saturday. Teams will rope three head, in three, 4-minute goes, guaranteed.

  5. You cannot get disqualified for a technicality, you will only lose points.

  6. Loping is permitted after the head rope is on. Just like roping in the pasture.

  7. The rodear line (it will be chalked) must be protected prior to the animal being roped.

  8. Points will be deducted if the rodear is not respected – for example – running in the herd.

  9. Time will stop when ropes are strung – front and hind and the ground person stands up.

  10. The top 50 teams will come back the third day for the finals.

  11. You will be given 4 head this time. The team with the most points – wins.

  12. Each team member of the team must neck at least once

  13. We will pay 8 places. Good luck friends!

Head, Half Head, Neck and Front Leg, Figure Eight One or Both Front Legs

HEEL SHOTS

Any Turn Over Loop (including turnover trap shots) 12 Points (+1 point if on the move)
Scoop Loop Hip 11 Points
Houlihan Over Hip 10 Points
Overhand Over Hip 9 Points
Culo (Straight Behind) 10 Points
Standard Hip 8 Points
Backhand Flank 7 Points
Overhand Trap 6 Points
Underhand Flank 6 Points

Any Shots not Listed will be at Judges Discretion According to Style

**One heel = half the points that the shot thrown is worth**
